President and CEO Susana G Baumann is asking Latina leaders in particular, and all members of the Latinx community at large, to support her petition to dedicate November 1<sup>st<\/sup> as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/latinasinbusiness.us\/2020\/11\/01\/november-1-latinxs-killed-by-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Day of Remembrance of Latinxs Killed by COVID-19.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs of Tuesday, October 13 of this year, 43,953 Latinxs have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apmresearchlab.org\/covid\/deaths-by-race#latino\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> to lose their lives to COVID-19. As the pandemic takes a spike in the months of October and November with the feared \u201csecond wave,\u201d many more are expected to die due to health disparities and working as essential workers at the forefront of the pandemic,\u201d said Baumann.<\/p>\n<p>In the best tradition of the Catholic Church that celebrates <strong>All Saints&#8217; Day<\/strong>\u00a0on November 1<sup>st<\/sup>, Baumann proposes to dedicate that day to Latinxs\u2019 beloved family members who died by no fault of their own. The holiday is a Solemnity in the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church, a Festival in the Lutheran Churches, as well as a Principal Feast of the Anglican Communion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/proclamation-national-day-remembrance-americans-killed-illegal-aliens-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0continues to divide the nation by declaring 1 November as a \u2018National Day of Remembrance for Americans Killed by Illegal Aliens\u2019 nationwide. Adding insult to injury, the President continues in his crusade against the Latinx community,\u201d Baumann continued.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/doclib\/about\/offices\/ero\/pdf\/eroFY2018Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report from<\/a> the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for fiscal year 2018, just over 1,600 homicide convictions were on the criminal records of people arrested by ICE for being in the country illegally. ICE <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/Report\/2017\/iceEndOfYearFY2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> a similar number of homicide convictions (1,531) the previous year. This is well below the 10,150 claimed by numbers reported on social media.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/salud-america.org\/55-percent-of-u-s-coronavirus-cases-are-latino-black\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Latinos and black people together comprise 55% of coronavirus cases<\/a>, nearly double their U.S. population makeup, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/69\/wr\/mm6924e2.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CDC data released June 15, 2020.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As of October 23, 2020, the U.S. COVID-19-associated hospitalization rate was 193.7 per 100,000, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/covid-data\/covidview\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CDC data<\/a>. That is compared to 120.9 on July 24. Hospitalization rates for Latinos are 4.5 times the rate among Whites.
