Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute Announces Series of Voter Forums To Educate, Engage and Empower Milliennial Hispanics/Latinos

— The CHLI Red White Y Tu forums will bring together congressional speakers, distinguished civic and community leaders, experts in electoral research and student leaders to discuss the importance of being educated about the political process and the importance of Hispanic/Latino voter participation —

— The panel will be comprised of non-partisan electoral research experts, millennial leaders and a community leader, followed by a question and answer period. Ultimately, millennials are projected to be nearly half (44%) of the Latinos eligible to vote, many of which are either not registered to vote or do not intend to participate in the 2016 Presidential election. WASHINGTON, DC – September 20, 2016 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) will hold forums across the country as part of its Red White Y Tú tour. The Red White Y Tú tour will kick off in Los Angeles, California on Thursday, September 22 at California State University, Los Angeles followed by San Antonio, Texas on Monday, September 26 at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and wrap up in Miami, Florida on Thursday, September 29 at Miami Dade College – Wolfson Campus. The CHLI Red White Y Tú forums will bring together congressional speakers, distinguished civic and community leaders, experts in electoral research and student leaders to discuss the importance of being educated about the political process and the importance of Hispanic/Latino voter participation.

The panel will be comprised of non-partisan electoral research expert, millennial leaders and a community leader, followed by a question and answer period. Ultimately, CHLI’s Red White Y Tú will reach across the country to educate, engage and empower Hispanic/Latino millennial voters.

“We are excited to kick off the Red White Y Tú tour in Los Angeles this September, and reach out across the country to educate, engage and empower Hispanic/Latino millennial to vote,” said Mary Ann Gómez Orta, CHLI President & CEO. “According to the National Association of Elected & Appointed Officials (NALEO), by election date on November 8th, the eligible Latino electorate will reach 28.5 million. Each month, approximately 67,000 Hispanics/Latinos turn 18. We need to educate and empower our youth to vote. We need to empower them to exercise the honor of voting.”

CHLI would like to thank our sponsors, Azteca America, A Grupo Salinas Company and Target as well as NALEO, The Latino Coalition and Argus Events & Marketing for their support. Azteca America is committed in this crucial election year to help increase voter awareness and engagement among our viewership, particularly the millennial demographic,” said Manuel Abud, President and CEO, Azteca America. “Our partnership and support in CHLI’s Red White Y Tú tour is one key way we are achieving this goal and empowering our audiences to be active participants within our democracy.

Red, White Y Tú’s theme was created by CHLI’s event production team, Argus Events & Marketing, a Latina owned firm. Argus has produced, managed and designed events for Latino non-profit organizations for over twenty years. For Red, White y Tú their team is integrating humor, pop culture, story-telling and fun to production as a means to inspire millennials on the importance of political engagement.
