MIAMI, Florida – September 9, 2013 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – Florida International University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication today announced author and marketing expert M. Isabel Valdés as keynote speaker at its Hispanic Communication: Bridging Culture and Behavior Conference on Nov. 7-8 at the university’s Biscayne Bay Campus.

“We are very pleased to have Ms. Valdés delivering the keynote address at our conference,” said Raul Reis, dean of SJMC. “Her wealth of knowledge in the Hispanic market is beneficial and crucial in setting the tone for this gathering.”

«It is a New Hispanic Marketing Era that requires a much deeper, holistic and integrated vision of culture and communications in order to successfully target, reach, inspire and engage Hispanic consumers successfully»

The conference is the second event in the SJMC’s Hispanic Communication Conference series that brings scholars and industry leaders from the fields of advertising, public relations, and marketing together to share their insights on the culture and behavior of Hispanic consumers. The 2013 symposium will also address the strategies employed in engaging Hispanics in health, environmental, and political communication.

The two-day event will feature panel discussions on the first day and workshops and student presentations on the second.

“Hispanic presence and contributions across sectors in society is felt stronger every day, from shifts in the market place, politics and civic engagement, education and health care, to retailing, financial services, new media, public relations, big data, syndicated market data, etc.,” said Valdés. “It is a New Hispanic Marketing Era that requires a much deeper, holistic and integrated vision of culture and communications in order to successfully target, reach, inspire and engage Hispanic consumers successfully.”

Ms. Valdés is a renowned author and consultant in the field of marketing. She has penned five best-selling books that provide “in-culture” approaches to understanding the Hispanic market. Her latest book is 2012’s “Win! The Hispanic Market: Strategies for Business Growth.”

“Florida International University has taken a much needed leadership role convening a cross-section of experts and scholars with a visionary, integrated approach in Hispanic marketing and communications to succeed in this new Hispanic Marketing Era!” said Valdés.

Scholars and industry professionals from across the nation are invited to submit proposals to participate as presenters in the conference’s panel discussions; while graduate and undergraduate students are invited to submit research posters.
