National Survey Reveals Hispanic Cleaning Attitudes, Spring Cleaning Trends, and Pandemic Cleaning Habits

ENGLEWOOD, CO – April 7, 2021 – (NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE) – Spring is in full bloom, signaling the start of deep cleaning for many households across the United States. A recent Bona survey conducted by Harris Poll of over 2,000 U.S. adults found that the areas of the home Hispanics across the U.S. focus on the most for spring cleaning is floors/carpets (43%), bathrooms (38%) and bedrooms (34%). Non-Hispanic whites plan to focus on de-cluttering/organizing (46%), floors/carpets (41%) and windows (35%). The survey also found that nearly half of U.S. Hispanics (47%) are now cleaning less than they did when the COVID-19 pandemic started.

In addition to areas and items to prioritize during 2021 spring cleaning, the survey also asked Americans what aspect of cleaning they hate most. U.S. Hispanics identified bathrooms first and foremost, with decluttering/organizing, floors/carpets and basement/garage tied for second.

“Spring cleaning is a time when we focus on deep cleaning and areas we don’t generally prioritize throughout the year – we like to think of it as a reset,” said Andy Telatnik, Director of Marketing – Retail, Bona. “In this survey, we found that not only are floors the number one area U.S. Hispanics plan to focus on for spring cleaning, but it’s also one of the areas they dislike cleaning most. Yet, we know that with the right tools and solutions, cleaning those hardwood and hard surface floors doesn’t have to be difficult.”

The 2021 Bona Spring Cleaning Poll, conducted online by Harris Poll in February 2021, is timely with spring in full force this month. Other survey highlights for U.S. Hispanics include:

— COVID cleaning: Nearly half of Hispanics are cleaning less than they did when the pandemic started (47%).

— Feeling clean: When asked about how they feel when cleaning their home, “productive” (49%), “relieved” (36%), “happy” (40%) and “peaceful” (35%) were the top responses, with “annoyed” (16%), “stressed” (15%) and “unenthused” (12%) on the lower end of the spectrum.

 — Cleaning process: Nearly two in three U.S. Hispanics (63%) agreed that they prefer to clean in small spurts rather than one big cleaning day.

— Renovations and pride in the kitchen: Nearly two in three Hispanics (63%) are planning to make renovations/upgrades in the next 12 months. The top three projects noted by those planning to make a renovation or upgrade in the next 12 months include painting a room (42%), floors/carpets (36%) and renovating a kitchen (31%). In comparison, only 21% of non-Hispanic white respondents who plan to make any renovations or upgrades plan to renovate a kitchen this year.

With floors identified as one of the biggest areas of focus for Hispanics during spring cleaning this year, Bona’s 100-years of experience in floor care and maintenance can offer the best tips and tools for sparkling clean floors.

— Dust/dry mop first: Use a microfiber mop such as the Bona Premium Microfiber Mop for Multi-Surface Floors to gently remove dust, pet hair and debris from the floor. Be aware that vacuums may scuff or damage a floor

— Spray mop floors: Use a spray mop with a cleaning solution specifically designed for your floor type like Bona’s suite of floor cleaning product. For hardwood, avoid DIY vinegar solutions or steaming the floors to avoid damage or a dull, cloudy appearance. Excess liquid may also damage the floor, so leave the mop and bucket for other tasks.

— Deep cleaning: For spring cleaning, consider using a deep cleaning solution such as Bona PowerPlus® Hardwood Floor Deep Cleaner or Bona PowerPlus® Antibacterial Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner. Both these cleaning solutions offer an extra level of streak-free clean without harsh chemicals or odor.
