MIAMI, FL – October 19, 2020 – (LATINX NEWSWIRE) – IMC Health Medical Centers has been selected as the Humanitarian Organization of the Year 2020 as part of the 3rd Annual Hispanic Heritage Entrepreneur Awards presented by Buena Vida Media and the Latin American Business Association (LABA). The medical group earned this title by virtue of the number of philanthropic efforts it has carried out, especially in light of COVID-19.

At the peak of the stay-at-home phase of the pandemic, IMC Health made sure its thousands of elderly patients were well cared for not only medically but also nutritionally and mentally. The medical group delivered daily hot and fresh meals, distributed masks and created a mental health helpline called TeleAmigos designed to lend a caring ear to its lonely elderly patients during the quarantine.
“When we saw the positive impact our initiatives were having on our patients and the hardship South Florida citizens were experiencing as infection and unemployment rates skyrocketed, we felt the urgency to extend a helping hand to the community,” said IMC Director of Finance and Hispanic Star Hub Leader Carolina Veira, who is currently the head of the IMC Health community initiative that has been distributing thousands of free care packages to South Florida families.
The distribution of these care packages, executed by IMC Health with the help of Hispanic Star and large donations from the consumer goods giant P&G, has been carried out through a series of drive-thru events held throughout South Florida, where anyone in need could pick up packages filled with basic necessities, like hygiene and cleaning products. The medical group has also donated these packages directly to other community organizations, so they may distribute them to the people they serve.
