HACU accepting applicants for Fellows of its Leadership Academy / La Academia de Liderazgo

SAN ANTONIO, TX – November 15, 2019 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities is accepting applications for the second cohort of its Leadership Academy/La Academia de Liderazgo through March 6, 2020. The Leadership program prepares senior higher education administrators for top leadership roles at Hispanic-Serving Institutions, emerging HSIs and other institutions of higher learning.

“With the Leadership Academy, HACU aims to fill a pipeline of higher education leaders needed for the growing number of diverse college and university campuses,” said Antonio R. Flores, president and CEO of HACU. “The faculty/mentors of the Academy bring an invaluable set of ideas and expertise that enrich the curriculum for the next generation of college leaders in our ever-changing higher education environment.”

The one-year fellowship program includes three seminars. The first seminar will be held in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, on October 2020, in conjunction with HACU’s Annual Conference. The second seminar takes place in Washington, D.C., in April 2021, at HACU’s Capitol Forum. The third seminar is scheduled to be held in Salamanca, Spain, in May 2021, along with HACU’s International Conference.

“One of the things that I am thrilled about HACU’s Leadership Program is that it not only has the theory, but it has very practical advice for these leaders and it challenges them,” said Sue Henderson, president of New Jersey City University and a faculty member of the program. “And I think these are two things that are really important as we develop the leaders of tomorrow.”

The Leadership Academy faculty includes a select cadre of current and former presidents, chancellors and senior administrators. The team of experts with over 100 years of combined experience, has served in many sectors of higher education including faith-based institutions, private/public universities, and community colleges.

“The wealth of the experience of some of the people directing the Academy is incredible,” says Javier. E Olguin, a 2019 Fellow of the inaugural program and executive director of Eastfield College Pleasant Grove Campus, Dallas County Community College District. “They have a lot of great ideas and experiences to share with us as we are coming up the ranks.”

Fellows will be chosen for the 2020 cohort through a competitive application process. Information on the program, application process and frequently asked questions are available on the program website. Applications and nominations can be made at https://www.hacu.net/leadershipacademy. A PDF of program information can also be downloaded. The selected participants will be announced on April 17, 2020.
