ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ — July 14, 2022 — (NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE) — Hellmann’s is continuing in their mission to Make Taste, Not Waste and annual goal to inspire and enable 100 million people around the world to eliminate food waste with the launch of a new version of the Fridge Night app catered to Hispanic families and households. Fridge Night is a behavior-change program, available as a free app and e-book, that educates and inspires people to be more resourceful and creative with food, so they waste less. During the program’s four-week journey, consumers can earn rewards and win prizes by completing challenges, and for every Fridge Night challenge completed, Hellmann’s will help donate an additional meal* to someone in need — all via an existing donation program with their partners at Feeding America®.
In February 2022, Hellmann’s launched the first version of the Fridge Night app in English. Now available to download at Hellmanns.com, the all-new version of Fridge Night tailors food waste education and resourcing to the Hellmann’s Hispanic audience in the U.S. As part of this launch, the Fridge Night app is now available completely in Spanish, along with new, culturally relevant recipes and a new host — celebrity chef and entrepreneur Juan Manuel Barrientos, who has gained fame for revolutionizing Colombian cuisine.
“I am excited for the Hispanic community to be able to experience the Hellmann’s Fridge Night program like they never have before,” said Chef Juan Manuel Barrientos. “We worked to create recipes tailored to the flavors and ingredients that are commonly used and enjoyed in Hispanic households, so this can be a true resource to help inspire creativity and resourcefulness in the kitchen with what you already have in your fridge without sacrificing quality and taste.”
The Fridge Night program challenges consumers to be creative in the kitchen and use up what’s in their fridge, one night each week. The program includes tangible solutions like weekly ‘Use-Up Days’ and ‘Flexitas’ that help people turn left-behind ingredients into easy-to-prepare meals. A ‘Flexita’ is based on a loose framework that guides home cooks through the fridge-hunting process. The easy formula teaches people to mix and match what they have on hand to inspire them to think differently about meal creation.
“With this launch, we’ll be able to reach even more households and help provide them with the resources they need to eliminate food waste, which not only has an environmental impact, but financial impact as well,” said Ben Crook, Senior Marketing Director for Hellmann’s North America. “The Fridge Night program offers creative solutions that help families see the potential of the food in their fridge.”
Since its launch, the Fridge Night program has been proven to help reduce food waste. A 2021 large-scale scientific pilot study found that people who completed the Fridge Night program reduced their self-reported food waste by 46%, with 88% of participants feeling more resourceful in the kitchen after the program and 92% enjoying and recommending the program.
Now, with Fridge Night freely available in both English and Spanish for everyone to enjoy, more people can benefit and use this resource to help in the mission to fight food waste. This is part of Hellmann’s ongoing support of the United Nations and its sustainable development goal of reducing food waste by 50% by 2030.
Fridge Night is now available for food waste tacklers in the making across the U.S. to download on iOS and Android. To learn more and view Hellmann’s collection of ‘Flexitas,’ visit Hellmanns.com.
