HOLLYWOOD, CA – January 21, 2015 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – On Tuesday, January 27th, Latino filmmakers and industry professionals will have the opportunity to celebrate their passion for movie making at the first annual Latino Filmmaker Mixer, a Royal Social Affair at the Sundance Film Festival. Presented by independent filmmaker Maylen Calienes of “The Three Bilinguals” and MayCal Productions, in partnership with Hispanicize 2015 and Latin Heat Media, the invitation only event will take place in Park City, Utah from 2:30pm-6:00pm.
“The Latino Filmmaker Mixer’s objective is to provide like-minded individuals with a platform to exchange ideas, collaborate and improve the market to better represent the reality of our multicultural society”
“A new wave of Latinos are making history in Hollywood from Alfonso Cuarón and Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu to Gina Rodríguez and Eugenio Derbez,” said Calienes, herself a fan and veteran of Sundance. “The Latino Filmmaker Mixer’s objective is to provide likeminded individuals with a platform to exchange ideas, collaborate and improve the market to better represent the reality of our multicultural society.” Latinos are 17% of the U.S. population yet represent 19% of all U.S. box office revenues, a fact that puts them in the driver’s seat as a vitally important consumer.
As part of Calienes’ partnership with Hispanicize and Latin Heat Media, both organizations are co-sponsoring the networker and providing strong media coverage. The event will be using #LFM15 for their social media.
“Maylen’s initiative and resourcefulness to organize this as a bootstrapping independent filmmaker is commendable,” said Manny Ruiz, founder and creative director of the Hispanicize 2015 event, taking place in Miami, March 16-20th which includes a Latino Film Showcase. “Hispanicize is involved in order to not only help her dreams and those of other Latino filmmakers come true but also to make sure this new space continues to grow. This space should be able to encourage more and more Latino filmmakers to unite forces in order to connect with financiers, studios and talent that may want to work with them.”
Among the supporters, Top Rebel Productions, a new entertainment company founded by actor Freddy Rodriguez, writer/director Francisco Lorite and Producer Bill Winett will be donating copies of their Imagen Award nominated film “Mediation.” “Top Rebel Productions is thrilled to be able to support the first Latino Filmmakers Mixer at Sundance 2015. We wish Maylen Calienes and her team good luck & a bright future!”
Also, Dama Tequila, “the worlds first luxury tequila created by women, for women and the men who love them” will be providing delicious signature cocktails along with appetizers, homemade cookies and truffles made and donated by Hollywood Casting Director Craig Darr; “I am supporting Latino Filmmakers because I am a casting director, who loves to see more diversity in all aspects of the filmmaking process,” Carr said.
