MIAMI, FL – March 21, 2018 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – DACA, Puerto Rico, #FakeNews, Trump, #MeToo and an unprecedented year of attacks against the Latino community have made the work of Hispanic journalists more challenging than ever before in American history.

These issues, plus the huge stakes of this year’s midterm elections, are the hot topics that dominate the agenda of the 6th annual Hispanic Journalists Showcase of Hispanicize 2018. One of the most formidable line ups of Hispanic journalists ever assembled will be converging at Hispanicize 2018 to tackle these issues including national news anchors and reporters from NBC News, CNN, Telemundo, Univision, NPR, and more.

“These are the times that try our Latino soul both as journalists and as human beings,” said Hugo, Balta, Senior Director of Hispanic Initiatives at ESPN and former president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ). “Our journalists track will help our industry assess how we’re navigating through these situations and what we’re going to do help everyone get a fair and balanced perspective about Latinos in America,” said Balta, who teamed up with Mekahlo Medina, immediate past president of the NAHJ and co-anchor of the NBC4 weekend morning news “Today in LA”, to co-curate the journalists showcase.

Among the journalists slated to speak are: José Díaz-Balart, Anchor Host for NBC News and Telemundo; Gadi Schwartz, Correspondent for NBC News and co-host of NBC News’ innovative Snapchat newscast, “Stay Tuned”; Michelle Morgante, Deputy Managing Editor, National Public Radio; Antoine Sanfuentes, Managing Editor for the White House and Capitol Hill, CNN; Natalia Jimenez, Senior Photo Editor, NBC News; Sandra Lilley, Managing Editor, NBC Latino; Jesse Rodriguez, Director of Booking, MSNBC New York; Mariana Atencio, National Corresponent, MSNBC; Leyla Santiago, Correspondent, CNN; Gloria Ordaz, Anchor, Noticiero Telemundo 51; David Rodriguez, Telemundo 51; Carlos Moreno, National Correspondent, Mundo Hispanico; Veronica Villafañe, Editor of Media Moves and Past President of the NAHJ: Jill Nicholson, Director of Customer Education, Chartbeat; Fernando Lopez, Deputy Editor, ESPN Deportes Digital; Nicole Pelaez-Dandrea, Sr. Deputy Editor, Newsroom and Integration, ESPN; Jennifer Marcial Osacio, Editor, El Sentinel; Fernando Huerto, Multi-Media Editor, Circa; Miguel Martinez Valle, Reporter, NBC10 Telemundo Philadelphia; Martin Munoz, News Digital Director, Telemundo; Alix Aspe, Digital Producer, Telemundo News; Silvia Salgado, Director of Digital integration, Univision; Fernando Foehn Hurtado, Multi-Media Journalist, Circa; and Evan Perez, Investigative Reporter.
