MEXICO CITY AND WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 19, 2018 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – The Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) urges all Mexicans who have registered to vote from abroad to send their ballots by mail immediately to be counted in the July 1 election. Ballots from Mexicans living abroad are expected from 100 countries, including the United States, Canada, Spain, Germany, and France.

As of June 16, 48.35% of Mexico City mail-in ballots from Mexicans living abroad have been received.

“July’s election is one of the most important electoral processes in the history of Mexico – due to all the positions to be elected – and it is a great opportunity for those Mexicans living abroad to make their voices heard and vote in what will be the future of the country,” said Yuri Beltran Miranda, Electoral Advisor of Mexico City. “It is very important that those who registered to vote from abroad send their ballots by mail as soon as possible. Do not let too much time go by; go as a family or with friends to take the envelope to the post office. Your country will thank you.”

The following are suggested dates, depending on location, for voters to send in their ballots to meet the June 30 deadline in order to be counted.

— June 21: Africa, Asia and the Australian region

— June 22: Europe, the Caribbean, and Central and South America

— June 23: United States and Canada

“Mexicans abroad who are registered to vote in Mexico City can be confident that their vote will arrive, if it is sent on time, to be protected and counted,” said Beltran.

In order to motivate the vote of Mexicans living abroad who are registered in Mexico City— representing 15% of the national voter list registered to cast overseas ballots—the Electoral Institute of Mexico City launched the multimedia campaign #VotoChilango, an historic effort to advance democracy in the country.
