NEW YORK, NY – August 14, 2014 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – It’s back to school time! This fall, thousands of parents will be sending their children off to college for the very first time which may be their children’s greatest milestone to date. However, for the U.S. Hispanic population, sending a child off to college is not only a milestone for the student but for the entire family! Thus, arriving on university grounds that first day ends up becoming a family affair.
“I’m partnering with JCPenney to help families prepare for a student’s first day of college. I’ll be lending my personal experience and design background to help make sure they have all of their essentials (from sheets to curtains, kitchenware and bath accessories) ready for move-in day.”
According to the Pew Research Center, Hispanics “have made big gains in college enrollment, a measure that includes both two- and four-year schools.”
So, with many Hispanic children heading off to college this fall, how can their families send them off to college and make them feel comfortable being away from home?
Nationally recognized interior designer, home improvement expert, and cofounder of CasaLatina.com, Marlene Pratt will share her personal experience and expert advice to provide tips on how families can send their college student off to school as seamlessly as possible.
Marlene says, “I’ll never forget my first day on campus! My entire family came along to help me set up my dorm room and my mother even packed whole weeks’ worth of food in containers labeled Monday through Friday. It was a very emotional day for us all! So, when it comes to families sending their children off to college for the first time, I’m partnering with JCPenney to help families prepare for a student’s first day of college. I’ll be lending my personal experience and design background to help make sure they have all of their essentials (from sheets to curtains, kitchenware and bath accessories) ready for move-in day.”
