The conference theme is “Bilingual Education” – ¡una ola de éxitos!
Ms. Tiscareño-Sato will share her educational experiences as an English Language Learner and celebrate the impact specific educators had on her life that positively affected her long-term professional and personal successes. She’ll entertain attendees with how she overcame cultural obstacles (like traditional, domestic roles forced on young Latinas and resistance to moving far from the family) to attend U.C. Berkeley as a four-year scholarship Air Force ROTC cadet. The speaker will share proof points of the multitude of advantages of being a bilingual American with stories from her careers spanning global military service (including an Embassy liaison officer post in South America) and corporate marketing roles at both a German telecommunications company and an Israeli renewable energy equipment company. Tiscareño-Sato’s strategies will encourage teachers to spark and fulfill the ambitions of today’s ELL students.

Her latest children’s book Captain Mama’s Surprise/La Sorpresa de Capitán Mamá won First Place in the “Most Inspirational Children’s Picture Book – Bilingual” category at last month’s International Latino Book Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Her work has been featured recently by USA Today and NBC News. Ms. Tiscareño-Sato is actively scheduling events leading up to Veterans Day November 11th.
