SAN ANTONIO, TX – October 30, 2018 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – The UnidosUS Action Fund hosted a press conference on Tuesday, October 30 to discuss how they have been mobilizing and empowering Hispanic voters with a targeted get out the vote campaign in Texas. The event also announced that UnidosUS Action Fund has endorsed Beto O’Rourke for U.S. Senator and other Texas federal candidates, Veronica Escobar and Sylvia Garcia. These candidates will work for the best interests of our state and will fight back against the attacks from the Trump administration and Republican candidates.

“The 2018 election is the most consequential mid-term election in living memory,” said Janet Murguía, UnidosUS Action Fund President. “No president in the last 100 years has done more to divide Americans than President Trump and we need elected officials who will challenge this president and his Republican allies on their relentless assault on Latino families. It’s our time to vote and show this country what we stand for and what we believe in.”

Hispanics in Texas have the power to influence both the state and the nation. As the second largest Hispanic population in the U.S., Latino voters can be the ultimate swing vote in these tough federal, state and local elections. This upcoming midterm election serves as an opportunity to fight back against President Trump and his Republican allies who continue to attack Hispanics and other communities. From efforts to deny affordable healthcare and protect Texans with pre-existing medical conditions, to cruel and inhumane immigration policies, and proposed cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, Latinos can use their vote to protect their families and help make Texas and our country a safer and more united place to live.

With competitive Congressional seats race up for grabs, along with several state and local races, the midterm elections are critically important. The endorsed candidates will seek to advance an agenda that includes ensuring healthcare for people with pre-existing medical conditions, better-paying jobs, investments in education, expanded voting rights and comprehensive immigration reform.

The press conference took place on Tuesday, October 30, 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. at Herrera Law Firm, 1800 West Commerce St., San Antonio, TX 78207. Speakers for the event included Congressman Joaquín Castro, Congressman Lloyd Doggett,

Texas State Rep. Ina Minjarez, San Antonio Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales, Jolt Executive Director Cristina Tzintzun Ramírez and Texas Organizing Project Executive Director Michelle Tremillo.
