NEW YORK, NY – February 10 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – On Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015 LatinTRENDS dedicated to the concept of “redefining a star,” The 13th Annual Latino Trendsetter Awards was full to capacity, set New York City’s Symphony Space theater ablaze with a flawless parade of trendsetters, icons and inspirational leaders in the Latino community. The evening was co-hosted by fashion pioneering plus-size model and current LatinTRENDS Magazine cover person, Denise Bidot; and film and TV actor J.W. Cortes, as well as a special appearance by Melissa Mark-Viverito, speaker of the New York City Council. With live performances by Jeannie Sol, Edwin Vazquez, Richard Bastar Jr, aka/ Ba Star and the dance company Cali Salsa Pal Mundo. Living legend and GRAMMY winner Tito Nieves closed the award show with a spectacular live performance.
The 2015 Award recipients honored that night were Lorraine Cortés-Vásquez, AARP; Seny Tavares, CUNY In The Heights; Frank Galarza, boxer and youth activist; Hector D. Ruiz, Delta; Lynda Baquero, NBC4 New York; Vanessa Gonzalez Plumhoff, Federation of America; Daisy Auger-Dominguez, Disney, ABC Television Group; Eric Garcia, Spanish Broadcasting System, La Mega & Amor; Tony Jimenez, MICROTECH; Maria Amor, Formulatin; Anthony Lolli, Rapid Realty NYC, and a special Live it health award went to Nemesio Ortiz, Healthfirst.
Additionally, LatinTRENDS presented a special award to two top New York bloggers making striking contributions to the community, George Torres of Sofrito For Your Soul in English Language, and José Zabala of Zabala al Día for his Spanish language blog.
Scholarships were awarded to Danitsa Andaluz, sophomore at Macaulay Honors College at Lehman College and Nicole Lopez, freshman at John Jay College, who are also enrolled in a leadership program in the 100 Hispanic Women organization. The #LatinoTrendsetter Awards were produced by LatinTRENDS and sponsored in part by CUNY, Nissan, New York Presbyterian Hospital, SBS, La Mega 97.9 & Amor 93.1, Inca Kola and Hennessy.
