However, ever since Angélica Rahe picked up the Spanish guitar at age 13 and started singing and writing music, she has been slowly carving out a genre all her own. Her unique sound reflects her upbringing – a hybrid-child “navy brat” who lived between her native Spain, Japan and the United States. By osmosis she absorbed the culture of her surroundings, with a particular affinity for gypsies and their rich musical tradition.
Having spent the past 4 years in LA crafting songs for other artists – including the multi-platinum single “De vez en cuando” by Malú – Angélica has also been quietly but furiously working on her own solo project. Her singular approach combines soulful, soaring vocals, fiery Flamenco-influenced guitar, and bilingual compositions that fuse her Spanish gypsy roots with American Pop and Soul. Her debut single “Pa’lante” is an instant classic with a message we can all get behind – “let’s move forward, together.”
Co-written by Angélica and multi-platinum songwriter Daniel Santacruz, and produced by Jeeve Ducornet, “Pa’lante” is poised to be a Summer anthem that will continue to uplift our spirits for years to come. “‘Pa’lante’ is more than just a song;” says Angélica, “it’s a movement, encouraging us to come together and move forward despite odds, trials, difficulties. Angélica has been very busy preparing for her artist debut. Earlier this month she performed 4 brand-new original songs at Hispanicize – the largest Latino-driven marketing conference in the world. This Miami debut has lead to numerous opportunities – “Pa’lante” became the official recap song for Hispanicize, and Angélica was invited to join Miami favorite Locos Por Juana on stage during their show at Wynwood Yard that same week.
Next week she will return to Miami for her Billboard Awards debut for the ASCAP Acoustic Sounds showcase at Yuca on Lincoln Road. This will be an exciting moment for Angélica, as she is taking the stage as a veteran ASCAP writer and premiering her solo career to industry insiders and fellow musicians.
While Angélica’s sights are set on pursuing her artistic career, she has also taken a strong interest in developing Latina artists and songwriters.
