WASHINGTON, DC – September 18, 2014 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – Elaine Coronado, Founder and President of Argus Events & Marketing, and a graduate of the National Hispana Leadership Institute’s (NHLI) prestigious program, the Executive Leadership Program (Class of 1993), was awarded with the Institute’s “Alumna of the Year Award” this week at its Annual Conference and Mujer Awards in Dallas, Texas.

“Years later, I am thrilled to represent NHLI, and my community, as a successful business owner leading events and marketing efforts for premier minority organizations, as well as for individuals among the highest ranks in Washington, D.C. and throughout the country”

Since 1993, NHLI’s Mujer Awards (“Mujer” meaning “Woman” in Spanish) has recognized the achievements of Hispanic women who have serve their communities and act with justice, love, and the deepest pride in their culture.

“I was honored to receive the Alumna of the Year award by NHLI, as I had the opportunity to publicly thank them for the role the institution played in my professional development. As part of my fellowship with the Executive Leadership Program, I was sent to the Center for Creative Leadership. This proved to be a major game changer for my career, as it reinforced my strong entrepreneurial skills, and gave me the confidence to incorporate Argus Events & Marketing,” said Ms. Coronado. “Years later, I am thrilled to represent NHLI, and my community, as a successful business owner leading events and marketing efforts for premier minority organizations, as well as for individuals among the highest ranks in Washington, D.C. and throughout the country.”

Ms. Coronado founded Argus Events & Marketing in Washington, D.C. nineteen (19) years ago, specializing in event management and marketing services to minority organizations and those interested in minority communities. Under her leadership the company produced the 2001 Hispanic Presidential Inaugural Gala and managed the various events relating to the 2013 Latino Presidential Inaugural including “In Performance at the Kennedy Center” co-chaired by Eva Longoria and Henry R. Munoz III. She has worked with most major Latino organizations and is a recognized expert in telling the stories and bringing to life the missions of non-profit organizations.

In 2010 her company was awarded a contract from the Department of Interior to write a fundraising feasibility study for the proposed National Museum of the American Latino. Argus researched, studied, and interviewed key individuals resulting in a comprehensive strategy to raise $300 million within a ten-year period. Argus currently works with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) consulting on their Capital Campaign and with others on strategic approaches to sponsorships and fundraising as a key component to event management.

Ms. Coronado served on the District of Columbia Civil Rights Commission and was a fellow in the U.S.-Mexico Solidarity Foundation Program. She is a 1990 graduate of the National Hispana Leadership Institute that led her to the Center for Creative Leadership in North Carolina and Executive Program at Harvard University. Ms. Coronado has had several assignments with the U.S. Department of State as Public Member to Selection Boards, resulting in her advocacy for inclusion of more minorities into the diplomatic ranks. Due to her work on the North American Free Agreement (NAFTA) she was recognized as one of the Top 100 Influential Hispanics in the United States by Hispanic Business. She has served as a Board Member at the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and as President of the Board of Associates at the National Rehabilitation Hospital.

Born in San Antonio, Texas within a military family, Ms. Coronado spent 12 years of her childhood living overseas in Germany, Spain and Panama. She attended the University of Texas at San Antonio, received a B.A. in History and Political Science, and studied at the University of St. Louis at Madrid, focusing on Spanish culture and art appreciation at the world famous Prado Museum.
