BURBANK, CA – November 7, 2016 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – Estrella TV, the fastest growing, minority owned Spanish language network in the U.S. announced today that the 17th edition of its Premios de la Radio beat all television networks in the Los Angeles market regardless of language.
According to Nielsen Media Research, Premios de la Radio 2016 beat Univision, ABC, CW, Telemundo, Fox, CBS, NBC and Unimas across the board in primetime among adults 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.
With an unprecedented lineup of the hottest Latin and American superstars, Estrella TV hosted a four hour live musical extravaganza that celebrated the top recording artists in Latin music. Premios de la Radio is the only awards show in the US that recognizes and honors the importance of regional Mexican music, which according to a 2015 RIAA report on Latin music, still accounts for 48% of all Latin music sales in the US.
The show kicked off with a red carpet event at 6:00 p.m. and was followed by the main event, which aired from 7:00-11:00 p.m. nationally. This year, Premios de la Radio opened with a star-studded tribute to global music icon Juan Gabriel, featuring today’s hottest Latin music acts such as Becky G, Banda El Recodo, Gerardo Ortiz, Shaila Durcal, Luis Coronel, and Roberto Tapia, to name a few. The four-hour musical show also featured never-before seen duets and first-time performances with mariachi by pop sensation Becky G and Latin heartthrob Luis Coronel.
Another highlight of the night was the performance of one of Latin music’s highest rated and most iconic recording artists, multiple Grammy® winner and international superstar Marco Antonio Solis, who celebrated 40 years of an unparalleled and successful musical career as writer, composer and one of Latin music’s highest grossing performing artists. The night couldn’t be complete without a parody video by radio and TV personality Don Cheto, who this year featured “Burro Karaoke,” accompanied by Latin sensation Joey Montana in the heart of Rodeo Drive, which is already rapidly trending in social media.
The show’s most anticipated performance of the night was the grand finale, which featured Black Eyed Peas accompanied by Latin music’s top brass performing the world premiere of the social awareness Spanish language music video “Where Is The Love.” The song was recorded at The Future in Los Angeles, California. Black Eyed Peas performed the song live for the first time along with a group of children as part of Estrella TV’s effort to raise awareness and unify the Latino community in a time when the Hispanic community in the U.S. has been under fire.
