Finland Profiles Miami-Dade School Dilemma with Candidate Marcela Gomez-Bogomolni

MIAMI, FL – August 11, 2020 – (LATINX NEWSWIRE) –  Marcela Gomez-Bogomolni, clinical social worker, activist, journalist, and candidate to represent the Miami-Dade County School Board District 3 for the period 2020-2024 was the subject of an interview broadcast published in Finland about her views on the Miami Dade School Reopening Plan.

For the last few years, Finland has been ranked in the Top 5 of the world’s best educational systems, and due to COVID-19, the Finish Broadcasting media Yle Uutiset decided to make a report of the school reopening crisis in the United States last Monday, August 3rd, 2020.

Marcela Gomez-Bogomolni was the only political candidate in Miami interviewed for this international report. As a clinical social worker, she spoke about the reality of the school system in Miami-Dade County. “I was asked about my views and ideas that will return our children to a school system with programs that promote self-confidence and self-esteem by enhancing physical and mental education that will impact the alarming rate of suicide, vaping, and low morale”,  announced Gomez-Boglomolni. She considers it is only necessary to reopen schools as long as we take appropriate prevention measures for COVID-19 in phase TWO. Children and teachers should be safe before returning to school.

She was considered to be part of the report because of her expertise in mental health programs. “By returning the creative arts as intervention tools for mindfulness, our curriculum combined with other innovative programming will accomplish this.   I am honored that of all the candidates and clinicians available to interview around the country, they reached out to me!” said Gomez-Bogomolni.

Different journalists, local and national newscasts in California and Washington DC, are also captivated by the candidate’s proposal that until today seems to be the first political campaign that wants to include mindfulness in the schools of our country as a method to prevent depression and suicidal ideation among the young.

Gomez-Bogomolni would also like to instill financial readiness into our schools’ curriculum. Too many young adults are uninformed about the future obstacles they will face. Our schools are meant to educate students on subjects that will improve their lives, and should prepare them for adulthood. Moreover, she is a firm believer in “early child education” and thinks it should be included within our public school system.
