DEARBORN, MI – August 29, 2017 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – Ford Motor Company Fund is contributing $100,000 to disaster relief efforts in Texas, following historic flooding in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. In addition, Ford Fund will match up to $50,000 in employee and dealership contributions to the Red Cross, raising potential assistance from Ford to $200,000.
If you’d like to donate to the Red Cross, please go to redcross.org/ford-emp to have your donation matched by Ford Fund.
Because the affected areas remain unstable, local officials are focused on letting trained first-responders do their work. Ford employees and the Ford Fund have a long history of assisting people in need following natural disasters. Ford Fund will continue to work with community partners in the Houston area to determine how volunteering and other support can be provided in the days and weeks to come. Please continue to check @Ford for updates.
The initial $100,000 contribution will be divided among five of Ford Fund’s disaster relief partners – American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities USA, Team Rubicon, an organization based in Texas that uses the skills of veterans to assist with emergency response, and Toolbank, an organization that provides tools and equipment free of charge.
As part of Ford Fund’s ongoing partnership, each of these organizations has received a Ford vehicle to advance their mission to aid people in need, including Catholic Charities which accepted delivery of their vehicle just last week as part of the Ford Disaster Relief Mobility Challenge. That Ford truck and several other vehicles are being deployed to Texas this week.
Hurricane Harvey came ashore over the weekend with winds up to 130 mph, but the unprecedented rainfall is causing disastrous flooding. Up to 50 inches of rain is expected in some areas through the week as the remnants of Harvey continue to swirl over Houston and east Texas into neighboring Louisiana.
