

NEW YORK, NY – May 18, 2015 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – On May 9th, 2015 Loisaida, Inc. began hosting a new program—La SoPA NYC at its Center on 710 East 9th Street on the Lower East Side. Since it began eight years ago, Capicu Culture has quickly developed a cult following in NYC’s Latino artistic community, garnering the support of established and new creatives alike. By hosting the educational branch of Capicu Culture’s program, La SoPA NYC, Loisaida Inc. makes a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts, Creative Writing concentration, education accessible and affordable to emerging and established artists.
The membership-based program includes 6 weeks of Writing/Performance workshops, followed by a capstone class on Social Media & Marketing For Artists. It is led by Capicu Culture’s Award Winning Creative Director Juan “Papo Swiggity” Santiago, renowned poet Jani Rose, along with award winning cultural community builder George “Urban Jíbaro” Torres. Along with several other presentations throughout the program, La SoPA participants will have the opportunity to showcase their talents’ at the iconic Loisaida Festival on May 24th, 2015.

La SoPA will nourish a new generation of writers and performance poets of color in New York City and the surrounding areas. Through this program, Loisaida, Inc. is now poised to produce a cadre of powerful new creatives in a neighborhood known for its vibrant and diverse history.
