“We are truly honored to receive this award. The Chamber is committed to the economic growth of Hispanic and other minority-owned businesses in the Washington metropolitan region,” said Angela Franco, GWHCC President and CEO. “This past year, we have worked relentlessly to expand our capacity building programs and events to provide more opportunities for our members and the business community at-large to grow and be successful.
Currently with over 600 members, the GWHCC has launched and implemented several programs to assist Hispanic businesses and drive economic growth to the Washington metropolitan region. Among those programs are: the DC SmallBiz Mentorship Program (DCSMP), in partnership with the Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs (OLA); a technical assistance program to assist Hispanic businesses in the Prince George’s County; an international initiative, Promoting Trade of the Americas, to encourage the use of trade agreements between the U.S. and Latin America and promote economic investment in DC.
“This is exciting news. I would like to thank the USHCC for recognizing the GWHCC with this award,” stated Alfredo Casta, GWHCC Board Chairman. “It is a reflection of the hard work our staff does each and every day to connect Hispanic businesses together; businesses that are the backbone of our community, create jobs and grow our local economy.”
Furthermore, in 2013 the GWHCC was also honored with the Chamber of the Year in the medium size category.
