OVERLAND PARK, KAN. – March 17, 2015 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – Sprint (NYSE: S), a leader in the wireless industry committed to providing the best value in wireless, is joining with ASPIRA of Florida on a new initiative to give Latino youth access to the tools and guidance needed to unlock their potential. Through the new Sprint Mobile Mentorship Program, Sprint and ASPIRA of Florida will connect students with prominent business leaders to serve as mentors, while also providing mobile devices with unlimited high-speed data, talk and text so that students and their mobile mentors be connected with the help of technology.
ASPIRA of Florida is a nonprofit Hispanic organization dedicated to developing and enhancing the educational and leadership capacity for Hispanic Youth. In conjunction with ASPIRA of Florida, Sprint will kick off the Sprint Mobile Mentorship Program during the annual Hispanicize, a Hispanic influencer conference, held March 16-20, 2015 in Miami. While at the conference, potential mentors can sign-up at the Sprint booth and meet with attending students. This opportunity to connect students with influentials also includes a national call for Latino leaders to become mobile mentors and provide guidance and encouragement to help catapult the next generation of Latino professionals.
“Providing access to mobile technology is part of our continued commitment to provide resources to the Hispanic community, especially to students,” said Kymber Umaña, Hispanic Marketing Manager at Sprint. “When students have the right tools and support, they can achieve their dreams and strengthen their communities. Sprint is proud to extend these ladders of opportunity to the next generation.”
The Sprint Mobile Mentorship Program will offer several touch points for the mentors to offer coaching during the school year and for mentees to collect valuable one-on-one information and advice. With the help and support of Samsung, Sprint will offer ASPIRA of Florida students Samsung devices to capture, record, and highlight their exciting new mentorship journey. ASPIRA of Florida will assist in connecting, building and maintaining the mentor/mentee relationships.
“We are excited to partner with Sprint and extend our program in a way that has never been done before,” said George M. Cabrera, President & CEO of the ASPIRA of Florida. “Mentors play a vital role in helping broaden the horizons of our students however, many lack access to professionals in their fields of interest or local cities. This initiative helps us bridge the mentorship gap and use mobile technology to bring kids closer to their dreams.”
Sprint has made significant contributions toward K-12 education– supporting innovative programs that combine technology with quality educational programming in schools and non-profit organizations.
