LOS ANGELES, CA – February 19, 2016 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – Just like every year, SXSW presents great musical treasures during the music conference held annually in Austin, Texas. This year, Laguna Pai is one of those surprises that has already started to draw attention in this country with a new style in the Peruvian music scene. The group, composed of eight members and led by a distinctive voice that conveys the sensitivity of their lyrics, will present diverse showcases during the week of March 15-20. The band will be representing Perú, one of the countries that has emerged excellent music talent to an international level.
Since recording their debut album “Kultura Babylon” in 2010, the group attracted public and media attention, letting it be known that the group’s priority is the message their music delivers. Their lyrics tap into crucial issues such as environmental conservation, equality, social inclusion, introspection and spirituality, demanding to raise awareness through their music. The described album was considered one of the best albums of the year in their country. In 2013, the group repeated this achievement with “Atento,” their second album release.
With their second album, the band acquired a deeper sound by enclosing synthesizers, extending guitar and keyboard solos, and by producing bass lines with strong rhythms and drum patterns from different genres. Two years later, in the end of 2015, “Resilencia” is born: the third and most recent album by Laguna Pai. The album title comes from the ability to overcome adversity, to adapt and to come out of it with a positive vision and a transformed life and world. The album was produced by the legendary reggae producer Jim Fox, from Lion and Fox Studios.
“We had the opportunity to work with Jim Fox, who is an authority in the world of reggae, as well as an incredible person. He’s a master in every way: very humble, very aware, very awake,” the group comments, “and we finally achieved the sound that we were looking for, which only happens when you work with someone who has done reggae for over 40 years and who has captured the spirituality and magic of that same genre.”
In this third album, it is clear that Laguna Pai reached new dimensions of composition by exploring harmonies and arrangements without losing the essence that characterizes them. Laguna Pai made an album where the roots of reggae that characterizes the band goes without being unnoticed, serving as a foundation to the group’s unique sound. “Resiliencia” is a journey, from self-reflection to forgiveness, from anguish to peace. It is a combination of emotions that are successfully compiled in 14 songs.
Laguna Pai has performed in music festivals throughout Peru, having already shared the stage with renowned international bands like The Wailers, Damian Marley, Israel Vibration, Steel Pulse, Clinton Fearon, Groundation, SOJA, Los Cafres, Gondwana and many others along their short career.
SXSW will be the next stage where the group has the undivided attention to expose their music, their ideology and to showcase their immense talent as musicians.
