MEXICO CITY – September 27, 2013 –- (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – The newly-formed Televisa Foundation today launched a national digital fund-raising campaign to provide relief services for the thousands of Mexican families impacted by Manuel and Ingrid – the two devastating hurricanes that ravaged the country last week.
“Our hearts go out to the families that have been upturned by the storms. Through this campaign we want to rally the support of generous individuals in the U.S. who want to contribute to the relief efforts”
Contributions to the campaign can be made by texting the word MEXICO to 41444, or by making a contribution through the Televisa Foundation website at http://www.televisafoundation.org
“Our relief efforts will be focused on rebuilding schools that were damaged or destroyed by the hurricanes so that children can return to a normal routine as soon as possible,” said Alicia Lebrija, president, Televisa Foundation. “Our hearts go out to the families that have been upturned by the storms. Through this campaign we want to rally the support of generous individuals in the U.S. who want to contribute to the relief efforts.”
The Foundation’s relief efforts will be directed at approximately 1,000 schools primarily located in rural areas that suffered severe damage from the two hurricanes.
The two storms that hit both coasts of Mexico last week led to massive landslides and flooding across nearly a third of the country. The storm affected 24 of Mexico’s 32 states, with Guerrero on the Pacific Coast and Sinaloa in the north particularly hit hard.
“We know that many families in the U.S. have loved ones in Mexico and we want to provide them with a secure and effective means of supporting the rebuilding efforts,” Lebrija said. “Every dollar that is raised counts and will be dedicated to rebuilding damaged schools.”
